Obera Argentina

You know it is going to be a good day when you get off of a bus after 18 hours and both your kids say “that was a good bus ride!”

It was 8:30 a.m. and we had just arrived in Posadas, the first of our three leg journey from Salta to a small town in Northeastern Argentina named Obera, when the kids made the declaration. The next two legs were a breeze, a short 1 hour bus ride from Posadas to Obera, and then a taxi ride to our new home so this looked to be a much easier trip than I had originally imagined.

So, where is Obera?

Well as I said it is in the Northeastern part of Argentina in an area on a map looks like a little peninsula. In fact, this part of Argentina is surrounded with Paraguay to Northwest, Brazil to the Northeast/East, and Uruguay to the Southeast. Most tourists visit the area on their way to Iguazu Falls but I don’t think they stop in Obera as there does not seem to be much tourism in the town.

As mentioned we were planning to head to Mendoza but at the last minute decided to take a “detour” for the possibility of House Sitting for a guy that wanted someone to look after his hostel for the month of June. I follow several sites that put together people looking for someone to watch their property with others that are looking for these types of situations. I received an email about an opportunity in Argentina, it looked interesting, and after talking with Gina we decided to give it a shot.

So, here we are in Obera on 2.5 acres at the home/hostel of a couple of guys wanting to get away for the month of June, but also want someone to watch after their property.  We have spent more than a day with them and they are great, down to earth guys.  One is Argentinian and the other is from California, so it is great to talk about some of our old stomping grounds but learn more about Argentina as well.  The property is a great little spot and we will take pictures and tell more about the place in the next week or so if things go well. If things work out we will be here for 6 weeks or so before heading on to our next stop…who knows where that will be.
