We’ve received a few emails asking if we were still alive and where we were…as the title suggests we have arrived in Argentina!
We crossed the border from Villazon, Bolivia to La Quiaca, Argentina a little over a week ago. Another uneventful border crossing (nice!), although the wait was more than 2 hours because we got stuck behind a couple of bus loads of people trying to cross into Argentina. The kids got a little tired of waiting around, but there were other travelers to talk to in line and we met some folks from Paris and Spain that we had seen the week before on a Bolivia tour.
The original plan was to spend one night in La Quiaca and then make the long trip down to Mendoza the next day. Mendoza from the Bolivian border is about a 22 hour bus ride but we thought we would give it a shot. Well, the plans changed! Nobody felt like taking a long bus ride, in fact the vote was not even to make the 8 hour trip to Salta instead opting for a 3 hour trip to Tilcara. It has been a long 8 weeks, and the last 10 days were especially hurried. Everyone was ready to slow down…
Well, slow down we have! We arrived in Salta and were able to find an apartment that rented by the week so we grabbed that. It is only a 1 bed room place, but it has a kitchen so we can cook a few meals at home instead of eating at restaurants. We are all ready for a few home cooked meals! We have slowed down so much that we decided to spend an extra week here in Salta, it is a beautiful Colonial city with great weather, nice people, and some really good food.
Looks like we will take off on April 17th and head south towards Mendoza. Not sure if we will do the 18 hours down to Mendoza in 1 shot or break up the trip but we will definitely leave Salta then.
We have some cool photos we want to post and fill everyone in on our trip through Bolivia. The La Paz gave you a few hints of what we saw but we took a ton of pictures of the incredible beauty of this country that we want to share.
I will leave you with a picture of these guys…and gals…taken on the outskirts of a small – very small village in Bolivia. Aren’t they cute
So, safe and sound in Argentina…getting fat on the amazing Argentine beef!!
